Samsung, LG & Android TV

Step 1 — Open your TV's app store

• Samsung — press Home, open Smart Hub, select Apps
• LG — press Home, open the LG Content Store from the bar
• Android TV / Google TV — open the Google Play Store from the home screen

Step 2 — Search for a player

Search IPTV Smarters Pro first. If your model doesn't list it, try these in order — availability varies by brand, model year and country:

• IPTV Smarters — the non-Pro version, same idea
• Smart IPTV — common on Samsung and LG
• Set IPTV — another reliable Tizen and webOS option

If none appear, your TV's store doesn't carry one. Skip to the Firestick note at the end rather than fighting it.

Step 3 — Install and open

Install, open, and accept the terms. On some Samsung and LG apps you'll see a MAC address on first launch — a string like 00:1A:2B:3C:4D:5E. Note it down; certain apps use it for their own one-off activation, which is charged by the app developer, not by us.

Step 4 — Enter your credentials

Choose Login with Xtream Codes API where offered:

• Any name — a label, e.g. "Living Room TV"
• Username, Password, Server URL — from your welcome message, URL including http://

If the app only accepts M3U, paste the M3U link from your message instead. Typing an 80-character URL on a TV remote is where most mistakes happen — many Smart TV apps offer a web upload page where you paste the link from a phone or laptop, and that's far safer.

Step 5 — Let it load

Select Add User. The channel list and guide take up to a minute the first time. Smart TV processors are slower than a streaming stick, so be patient here — it's faster on subsequent launches.

Done. Live TV, Movies and Series appear on the main screen.

What to Expect from IPTV on a Smart TV

Running IPTV directly on the television is the tidiest setup there is — one remote, no extra box, nothing behind the TV. It's also the setup with the most variation between models, so it's worth knowing where the rough edges are.

Samsung and LG are walled gardens

Tizen and webOS are Samsung's and LG's own systems, and their stores are curated far more tightly than Google Play. That has two consequences.

First, app availability is inconsistent. The same app may appear on a 2021 Samsung and not on a 2019 one, or be present in one country's store and absent in another. That isn't something we control.

Second, several Tizen and webOS IPTV apps use a one-off activation fee tied to your TV's MAC address — typically a few dollars, paid to the app developer. It's their licensing model, not a charge from us, and it's separate from your subscription.

Android TV is the easiest by a distance

If your set runs Android TV or Google TV — most Sony, Philips, TCL, Hisense and Sharp models — you get the full Google Play catalogue. IPTV Smarters Pro and TiviMate are both there, both free to install, no MAC activation, no hunting for alternatives.

Roku won't work, and there's no way around it

Roku doesn't permit IPTV players in its channel store, and there's no sideloading route. If you have a Roku TV, the answer is an HDMI device: a Firestick or Android box on any input gives you exactly the same result on the same screen.

Be realistic about Smart TV performance

Televisions have modest processors compared with a $30 streaming stick. On a 25,000-channel lineup you'll notice it: the guide takes longer to draw, scrolling is less immediate, and switching channels can be a touch slower than on a Firestick.

It's perfectly usable, and if you value having no extra hardware it's the right choice. But if the interface feels sluggish, that's the TV, not your connection — and it's exactly the case where a Firestick is worth the $30.

Wired beats wireless on a TV

Most televisions have an Ethernet port, which most people never use. If your router is anywhere near the TV, a cable removes Wi-Fi from the equation entirely and is the single most effective fix for buffering. Failing that, connect to the 5GHz band rather than 2.4GHz.

You can use both

Setting up your TV doesn't stop you setting up a phone, tablet or laptop with the same credentials. Install everywhere; your plan governs how many stream at the same time, not how many are set up.
